What is the value of x?

[1] 3 (x - 1) = y + 3 x.

[2] (x + 2) (y + 3) = 0.

[1] 3 (x - 1) = y + 3 x.

[2] (x + 2) (y + 3) = 0.

1] 3X - 3= Y+ 3X
Here, since 3x can be cancelled out, you will be left with Y=-3; therefore, you cannot get the value of X.
2] For the equation to be correct, either X+2=0 or Y+ 3= 0.
It follows from the above that X=-2 or Y= -3; thus insufficient because to satisfy the equation, X can assume any value insofar as Y= -3
Taking both data together asserts that Y has to be exactly -3, thus leaving wide room for X to assume any number. Had the given information in number 1 resulted in a 'Y-value' different from -3, then Choice C would have been the answer. But in this case the answer is E.

(1) --> -3=y
(2) --> xy+3x+2y+6=0

you would think that together you'll be able to solve but you can't.
the entire eq. just = 0. we cannot get the value of x.

hence (E).
