x/y = 1/4 and a/b = 1/4
=> y = 4x and b = 4a

(x - a)/(y - b)
=(x - a)/(4x-4a)
=1/4

Ans c
Plug in x=2, y=8, a=1, b=4.
(x-a)/(y-b) = (2-1)/(8-4) = 1/4.

The correct answer is C.

This problem should make clear that x≠a and y≠b.

IMO it is C

If x/y = 1/4 and a/b = 1/4, then (x - a)/(y - b) =
(A) -1/4
(B) 0
(C) 1/4
(D) 1/2
(E) 8

x=y/4 and a=b/4. Put these values in the numerator and we have 1/4(y-b) and in denominator (y-b) and so when we divide, we have 1/4 left.
