%age accuracy

by i.dreem » Tue Jul 29, 2008 8:44 am
Hi All,

I just finished OG10 Verbal and my accuracy (%age accuracy = no of correct/total attempted) is:

SC - 74% (199/268)
RC - 79% (203/256)
CR - 81% (166/205)

I want to know, how good/bad is this accuracy and what score it generally translates into?

Thanx.

Hi,

Your performance cannot be judged by the number/percentage of rights. It also depends on the what the difficulty level is of the questions you are getting wrong. I also would not suggest to use OG questions to check your accuracy level, OG questions should be rather used to study the concepts that are tested and to study different type of questions. Use the GMAT prep tests to check your performance and not OG.

Yep, gabriel's right. You cannot gauge a score simply based on percentage correct, especially not from OG. You need to take a practice test.

You have two main options, each of which has strengths and weaknesses:

- GMATPrep, which will give you the most accurate indication of your current scoring level, but which will not provide you with any analysis or your performance or explanations for the problems you did

- a test from a test prep company, which won't be as accurate as GMATPrep but will give you analysis and explanations

So, you'll have to weigh the tradeoffs, obviously. If you are most concerned with the accuracy of the score, take GMATPrep. If you are most concerned with being able to use the test results to improve your score, take a test prep company test. If you do the latter, just make sure that the program actually will produce some kind of a report for you with analysis on timing and difficulty level in addition to percentage correct - otherwise, the data's not much use.

Thanx Gabriel and Stacey,

I have taken practice tests over the past few months. My Score is all over the place:

Powerprep 1 : 630 [28th March] [start of prep]
Princeton Review 1 : 560 [18th May]
Princeton Review 2 : 690 [3rd June]
Kaplan 1 : 590 [15th June]
Princeton Review 3 : 620 [20th July]
Princeton Review 4 : 710 [2nd Aug]

My strong area is CR, PS, DS in the respective order. Though i always do 2-3 silly mistakes in PS/DS.

From my test analysis, I have noticed that in Verbal i always get a bunch of questions wrong (like 12,13,14) or (18,19,20,21,22) especially in RC.

This week I am redoing OG11. Will be giving GMAT Prep 1 on 9th Aug to get the real indication of my standing.

My GMAT is on 2nd Sept. I have a target score of ~750 in my mind. But with all these scores in my kitty, I am wondering how will i reach the target score.

Please advice me so as to how i can improve my scores.

Thanx
