{A} - INCORRECT; "essential" & "key" are redundant
{B} - INCORRECT; "essential" & "key" are redundant
{C} - CORRECT
{D} - INCORRECT; something is essential for survival - For example: Oxygen is essential for human being's survival
{E} - INCORRECT; connector is missing

While essential 'for' seems correct here, I don't think there's much wrong with essential 'to' either. Really not sure whether to pick C or D. What's the OA?
