Vorticists- CR

by hoji » Fri Oct 21, 2011 10:33 pm
Every painting hanging in the Hoular Gallery is by a French painter. No painting in the Hoular Gallery is by a Vorticist. Only Vorticists use acrylic monochromes in their works.
If the information above is true, which of the following must also be true?
(A) No French painters are Vorticists.
(B) All Vorticists use acrylic monochromes in their works.
(C) Some French painters do not use acrylic monochromes in their works.
(D) No French painters use acrylic monochromes in their works.
(E) All French painters who use acrylics use acrylic monochromes in their works

I chose D because only vorticists use monochromes in their works, hence no other painter use monochromes, so no french painters use monochromes, but OA is C
what do you say BTGers?

C is the answer. French painters may or may not be Vorticists but all the paintings hanging in the room were of the French painters who were not Vorticists!

Hope this helps.

Thanks

I too arrived at D, but got convinced that all the statements except C are extreme. Since the argument talks about the paintings that are there only in the museum, the option that is not extreme and is reasonable makes sense. :)

D is wrong bcoz it is possible that there are french painters who use acrylic monochromes but their paintings have not been displayed in the gallery

IMO C

D is incorrect because some French painters might be Vorticists and thefore use acrylic monochromes while the rest do not...

and then we can see that the use of "Some" in choice C makes this answer choice correct.

Oh, i got my mistake. i initially thought that Vorticists is a nation or something like that, so i falsely assumed that if only one nation use acrylic monochromes, then French cannot. it turns out that Vorticists is not a nation, but members of a British artistic movement... so French can also be members of this movement, my bad!
