I am consistently a very moderate test taker and not great at math. So when I decided to pursue business school and chose to take the GMAT, I panicked when I realized that the GMAT was changing in a month and a half and that after June 1st, another analysis section would be added to the test. None of the in-person classes at any of the schools in Manhattan were being offered to begin and complete before May 25, the last available test date I could find pre-June 1. So I ordered an online test prep and decided to set aside four hours a day for the next five weeks studying.
I watched an hour and a half long pre-recorded video and many practice tests daily for the first week, then started adding full-length preps at the end of every week so that I could get used to the length of the test, the timing of the test, and the idea of taking such a test since I found that I get major test anxiety. By the fourth week, I had completed the entire online test prep and returned to all the questions that I had gotten wrong since the beginning of the week. I watched those videos again and redid tests on which I had scored 75%. I then reviewed confusing questions the night before the exam and relaxed for the next day.
Day of: I took longer than I normally did on questions, because of my nerves, which I wasn't expecting, so I am glad that I had trained myself to work more quickly and practice efficiency tips. Again, I struggled with the Math, because my nerves were making it hard for me to think, so I fell back on strategies I had learned on the online video (plugging in numbers, working immediately even if I wasn't sure about what I was doing yet). Worked well!
V 44/ Q 44/ 710 overall, 92 percentile!
