I'm sorry you're not loving law school / the idea of practicing law, but the earlier you find out the better.

If you're a 1L, and depending on which school you currently attend, you could apply to business school during your first year of law school and be a joint JD/MBA degree student. Two of my sectionmates at HBS were JD/MBAs and it seemed like they enjoyed business school MUCH more than law school.

Considering you mentioned "immediately after law school" in your subject line, I'm thinking you're actually in your last year of law school. The desire to get an MBA immediately after law school without even trying out law would definitely need some explanation in your application (and probably again in your interview) but if you have strong grades in undergrad (e.g. 3.5 or above), that strong GMAT score, strong grades in your law school program, 2+ years of work experience, and strong recommendations, I think you could have a real shot at a top 10 MBA program-strange story and all.

I'm sure you aren't the first person to go to law school and then realize you don't want to practice law! Does your school have a top MBA program also? You might be able to convince them to let you do a joint MBA/JD. Would be a shame to lose your law school investment completely. Folks who do joint MBA/JD often find themselves in banking...with your PE experience that could be a great fit.
