Hi,

As the subject suggests I will have a 4year experience in the Telecom industry in March 2012.

Gmat score is 710 Q49 V38 AWA 5.0

I am looking at MBA as a career accelerator within the telecom domain, opening up opportunities in product marketing and general management roles. My 4 years at a telecom consulting firm ( Tech Mahindra ) have firmed my resolve to stay in this industry which has a massive growth potential.

My career graph has been quite interesting in the last 4 years.
Starting out as a fresher, I earned the distinction of topping the entire training class with the highest ever score in the firm's history. Was marked as a GLC ( Global Leadership Cadre, MBA hires are given this distinction )
My roles and responsibilities have been on the rise since then. Initiated the knowledge gathering of a then up and coming product, created a team of 10 ( freshers like me ) with that knowledge. They all went on to lead their own teams once the popularity of that skill soared.
Engaged in presales and subsequent implementation of the Operation and Business systems ( the heart and sole of any telecom operator ). This has given me a solid ground up view in the telecom domain.
Currently a Product Expert in Business and Operations Support Systems and working in a consulting role advising Tier1 telecom operators/vendors worldwide such as AT&T, Cox Communications, Time Warner, Vodafone etc.

International experience ( 2+ years and counting ) with global telecom operators and telecom consulting groups such as CAS Group ( the guys who have designed the business architecture at Sprint, Cox and AT&T ). Currently based in Atlanta, USA.

Also founded a family startup ( Boffin Solution's ). It was a resource management and organising company that was designed to serve the telecom vendors and operators in organizing their human resources more effectively. The company did not fly due to lack of financing and the 2008 financial crisis, but the idea was sound. I owned the IPR for that idea and subsequently sold it to a major indian job board. I am not adding this into my experience. My four years are completely in Telecom

I can get solid recommendations from my Seniors ( Director, VP level ) and clients ( Director level ). All are HUGELY successful in their respective roles.

I have average EC's

Was part of Matri Karuna Vidyalaya program, teaching underprivilaged children in India for 1.5years while working in India. Had to leave it midway when I transferred to USA. I am not sure I can procure a certificate for the same as it was voluntary and non profit.

Led and Managed the cultural clubs at my College to initiate an annual festival. Led a team of 50 in the first ever and hugely successful event. ( The school earned a total of $15,000 )

I take annual photography trips to local sights ( Just me and my camera ).

Founded and Led the school Technical Club, seen it grow from 15 to 100 students. Actively involved even now ( after 8 years ). I am regularly invited to the school as a participating alumni.

Instrumental in gaining the college technical club affiliation to the IEEE and CSI organisations.

Currently I try to be involved in local cleanup drives in atlanta but not able to devote as much time as i would like to.

I am what I am, I cannot change anything that is listed above. I know there are several gap's in my profile

Below average GMAT score for a very competitive applicant pool
Average academics ( 7.3/10 GPA at Undergrad level )
Not so great EC's
Many others i Bet....

What I can do is put in my heart and soul into my essay's to address these gaps. How should i do that?

Also, WHat schools should I target,
I have a fancy for
ISB Hyderabad (INDIA )
Tuck
Wharton
Stern
Booth
INSEAD
Columbia

I may be aiming too high, feel free to ground me. But do advise me good programs that are a good fit for my profile and my post-MBA goals.

PSSSTT.... I know a little German to, If this can add some brownie points then so be it.. :D :P

Hello

Looking at the 2012 class profile at Columbia the students scored in the range of 680-760 in their GMAT. Similarly at Wharton's MBA class of 2012 the students scored in the range of 650-770 in their GMAT and the median GMAT score being 720. Hence a GMAT score of 700 plus is advisable if you are aiming for top institutes abroad. Also the GMAT alone won't determine your chances of admission; your work experience plays a vital role as well.

Your profile looks very interesting so make sure you highlight your academics and beyond well in your application and your profile is differentiated from the rest.

Generally most of the applicants have good 4-5 years of work experience. Although it is not just the work experience that counts but also what you did there like-what were your achievements, what initiative you took, what changes you drove in your workplace etc. So if you can show that in 4 years you have demonstrated the skills business schools are looking for you could still put in a strong set of essays and if not then you should try to improve your application.

Hi,

Your profile looks good and interesting.
Strong points are:
International experience, clients you have worked with ( if used well in essays US schools will like this experience).
Your venture though failed will help you differentiate from rest of the crowd. Definitely talk about the IPR thing.
Show good career progression during these 4 years.
GMAT is also decent. So, don't worry.
Don't talk about your extra currics a lot and instead give that space to your venture experience.

According to US you should target:
ISB
Haas
CMU Tepper
Duke
Ross

Columbia & Stern are finance schools. INSEAD is good for consulting. Booth and Wharton will be slightly aspirational and instead Duke and Ross and better bets.

As backup schools look at Texa Mccombs, Carlson Minnesota, USC marshall, Kelley. We are pretty sure that these schools will also offer you good scholarship.
