Ralph Eilison and Amiri Baraka both argued that music was perhaps the ultimate expression of Afro-American culture, that it was the one vector of African culture that there was no possibility to eradicate.
(A) that it was the one vector of African culture that there was no possibility to eradicate
(B) the one vector of African culture that could not be eradicated
(C) for it was the one vector of African culture, and that it was impossible to eradicate
(D) a vector of African culture that there was no possibility to eradicate
(E) as being the one vector that could not be eradicated from African culture

OA: B

Is IT in option C ambiguous ??

In C the second "it" is ambigous as it could referr to music or to vector or to culture...(both argued that music... vector... culture...and that it)

INO the one vector refers to afro-american culture.
Even if it were to refer to music, every other option has the same problem.
This problem tests for passive voice, concision, verbtense agreement in the subordinate clause instead of a modifier issue.

"it" make A and C wrong

"as being" is not logic to refer to music, E is wrong

"there was possibility..." is wordy

B is right

Rashmi,
while I was solving ,I got B at first go, but I had a different approach.

After reading the question I understood that what question was testing.
I mean some questions test "that vs whether" some test "tenses"etc

so while taking a look with the options, you get to feel what the test makers are trying to test you for, am I right??

So once I knew what they are going to test,it is very easy to attack the question.

Eg: here in this question, all the options in this question begin with a different key-word, like (a) THAT
(b)the one
(c) for it was

etc etc

so I knew that it is going to test about the general structure,so without reading all the options I skimmed my way to the option which was least wordy(and luckily it was B! :D )

However,if B had an Improper structure, I would proceed to the next one according to their word length.

and yes as far as Options like C are concerned, they are as bad as they can be and your instincts should always reject them at the very first instance when you see them.

My approach may not sound conventional but it has helped me a lot.

I skim the entire options and I quickly zero on the correct options most of the time

Hope this Helps

Karan
