Struggles of Life through Times of Hardship Stephen King
Stephen King is debatably the best author and most well known for suspenseful literature in the 20th -21th century, he is very popular or well known for the literature he has written such as The Body, The Colorado Kid, Under the Dome, Duma Key, Cell, and It (Miller). His books put many people's lives at a climax. Through time many people's perspective changes on the choices of others. One of King's most famous novels that are well known which are a huge hit in entertainment is IT in 1990. In all of Kings's life he wrote mainly of horror, but is also well known for his gothic writing. King's productions are not only in novels but also in short stories and films ("Stephen King"). Throughout his life he managed to write over 50 interesting novels. ("StephenKing.com"). King's struggles in his life as a child affected the way presented in his future choices.
Stephen Edwin King was born on September 24, 1947 at a Maine General Hospital in Portland, Maine. Stephen was the only natural born child of Donald Edwin King, and Ruth Pillsbury King. He was born with the struggling family with a father whom was addicted to cigarettes. King's mother took over running the family after his father suddenly disappeared. The childhood for King wasn't the best as a child. Due to the entire struggle in Stephens's life, he was growing up living in many places in states like Fort Wayne, Indiana and Stratford, Connecticut. This was because it's where his father's family was at the time. When King was eleven years old his mother decided that this was enough and moved back to his home state of Durham, Maine. Stephen King attended Lisbon High School in Lisbon, Maine in the 1950's. Eventually Stephen graduated from his high school in 1966. He graduated his sophomore year and attended the college of University of Maine Orono. Same as high school through the hard work and commitment Stephen graduated from college in 1970. He had a B.A average in college and was able to teach at a high school level. King's hard work and dedication to get through school work out for him in the long run. During the year of King's graduation a draft board examination immediately post-graduation found him a 4-F on grounds of high blood pressure, limited vision, flat feet, and punctured eardrums. ("Stephen King"). In King's college years he met the women of his life named Tabitha Spruce, which he goes on to marry in January 1, 1971. King meet his wife in the stacks of the Fogler Library at the University of Maine at Orono, were they both worked as students. ("Stephen King"). King's dream of becoming a teacher didn't go as quickly as he wanted it to, so the King's lived on the earnings of his labor at an industrial laundry and her student loans and savings, with an occasional boost from the short stories she sold to the men's magazines. ("Stephen King"). After a year of waiting to become a teacher he finally started teaching in the fall of 1971. King began his teachings in a high school English class at Hampton Academy, the public high school in Hampton, Maine. King really didn't have enough time during the week to do his writing, so he wrote on the evenings of the weekend. He also continued to write short stories and work on his novels. ("Stephen King"). King and his wife moved back down to southern Maine due his mother's health in the summer of 1973. ("Stephen King"). King's stories had a big role in his life due his all of the moving he had done throughout his life. So many people struggles, lead to many successes in the future.
During many days of hard thinking and endless time of right short stories, King wrote his first book named Carrie. In the spring of 1973, Doubleday& Co. accepted the novel Carrie for publication. On Mother's Day of that year, King learned from his new editor at Doubleday, Bill Thompson, the major of paperback sales would provide him with the means to leave teachings and write full-time. This was a major step in King's writing career, because he just got a really big accomplishment from a company famous had told him he should quit his job and become a full-time writer, which means they really enjoyed his writings. ("Stephen King").
Carrie was a story about a misfit high school girl who had gradually discovered she has telekinetic powers. She was just a normal girl in high school trying to fit in due to her differentness during senior year."Carrie" ("Stephen King"). Carrie's life wasn't the best like many teenagers. Her father died before she was born so she was brought up by her mother who is a fanatical Christian. Carrie's childhood home wasn't the best; her mother had paintings of tortured bleeding Jesus hanging on the wall. So Carrie had a very unique and interesting life.
King's second novel was originally called Second Coming and then Jerusalem's Lot, before it finally became Salem's Lot. ("Stephen King"). Jerusalem's Lot was a novel about a character Ben Mears returns to Salem's Lot to write a book on a house that was haunted and has scared him since his childhood. He eventually realized that his isolated hometown was infested with vampires. Mears convinces a small group of believers to combat the dead. "Salem's Lot" ("Stephen King").
King moved to Boulder, Colorado. While living in Colorado King published his next book named The Shining, set in Colorado. This novel was about the characters Jack Torrance, his wife Wendy, and their young son Danny move into the Overlook Hotel, where Jack was hired as the winter caretaker. He was cut off from civilization for months. Jack hoped to battle alcoholism and uncontrolled rage while writing a play. Evil residing in the Overlook which has long and violent history, cover Danny from his precognitive powers and exploit Jack's weaknesses to try to claim the boy from knowing and using his powers in a powerful but intelligent way. "The Shining" ("Stephen King"). Throughout King's writing history I found that the mainly subjected stories that he had written about were horror stories that were very intense, and at a high climax. I have also noticed that the common setting that the majority of his books took place were where someone didn't really have any clue where they were at the time. He also put them at like haunted houses were they had to fight of a fictional character or they would have mischievous powers to deal with. ("Stephen King Biography"). King didn't really have any influences in his life but he loved to read horror stories growing up as a child,("Stephen King").
Stephen King is precisely one of the best most well-known authors for his literature that he has written over the years, especially in the 20th -21th century. King's writing has had an influence on many readers that read his novels today, because many people are very interesting in the suspenseful, and a high climax story. His books always keep the reader's attention because you will never know what is ever going to happen next. Many people and authors know King's writing because of the interesting things he writes about, and the way he describes the actions taken place in his novels. Over all King is very well known and one of the most unique author on the books he writes. There are a lot of people in this world that people disagree on the way they think what's right and what's wrong due to other people's reactions to others reactions in life. If people put their thoughts on paper and make a story of what they believe is right and wrong in life, they might be a well-known author like Stephen King.
