‘In some countries, television and radio programs are carefully censored for offensive language and behavior. In other countries, there is little or no censorship.’
In your view, to what extent should government or any other group be able to censor television or radio programs? Explain giving relevant reasons and/or examples to support your position.

In our modern societies, censorship has become a very effective way to control the contents shown on television and radio that may be offensive for children and some social minorities. However, in some countries there is not any kind of censorship in their media so that television and radio can broadcast any content in their programs. In this discussion, I shall present my arguments favoring my first statement.
It is well known what happened with Janet Jackson in the MTV Prize Awards show. Therefore, next year the organization of the show decided to make a prerecorded broadcast in order to avoid this kind of behaviors. Their argument was that some viewers may find the contents disturbing. This argument is completely valid if we are trying to protect children from GMAT, given that young people up to certain age are very easy to impress by GMAT or violence and they tend to repeat any behavior or word they see or heard.
Additionally, it is very important, as well as protecting children, not to be offensive with some social minorities given that we live in a multicultural and multiethnic society and we should try not to create any conflict between different parts of the society.
However, many countries use censorship as a very powerful tool for politic propaganda and for controlling what citizens should think, say and behave. A good example of this is China. In this country all media is controlled by the Communist Party and if a journalist criticizes the government is very likely to be imprisoned.
Therefore, this strong censorship limits the freedom of expression and thinking of the most populated country in the world although what is being censored is not offensive or disturbing for nobody except the government.
To summarize, my opinion is given by the idea that little censorship is always necessary to protect youth from inadequate behaviors and language as much as keep peace and order in society avoiding conflicts and respecting each other. Nevertheless, censorship can never become a politic tool to control thoughts and speeches of the population. Thus, governments and censorship organizations should be very careful with what they are censoring and censor only contents that can be offensive or not adequate for children so that censorship can be an instrument for education and social peace and not a politic tool.
