Issue: "Work greatly influences people's personal lives-their special interests, their leisure activities, even their appearance away from the workplace."

Respone:
Some people feel that professional life affects various aspects of any individual's personal life. Others, however, opine that it totally depends on how an individual manages his personal and professional lives. In this discussion, I shall present arguments to support the latter view and refute the former view.
To begin with, I consider my own case to explain my position. I work for about 8 hours a day, and that accounts to less than 30% of time each day. I spend rest of the time (apart from sleep) with family, friends, hobbies etc. I want to enjoy the personal life to the fullest. And the only way I believe to achieve the same is by forgetting everything about work. I do exactly the same during work hours - absolutely no thinking about personal life while at work. This practice in deed gives me great energy to perform well during all the work hours. Basically, my strategy is to make sure that professional life doesn't at all influence my personal life. And I choose to do so because it works for me to give my best at work.
I know certain people in my team who cannot keep work out of their mind at all. They try to get busy thinking about work all the time. Perhaps work-from-home is their best excuse to do so. Consequently, their personal lives are greatly impacted. They tend to lose interest towards hobbies, which they were very much interested about in past. Some of them even suffer from chronic illness such as back pain. Not surprisingly, they are very good at work. Essentially it's their approach to be successful at work.
In sum, my opinion is that whether or not professional life influences personal life depends entirely on how an individual manages both his professional and personal lives.
