‘Corporations and other businesses should try to eliminate the many ranks and salary grades that classify employees according to their experience and expertise. A ‘flat’ organizational structure is more likely to encourage collegiality and cooperation among employees’.

Nowadays, all companies and corporations have a solid organizational structure. And in that structure there is included salary grades. The statement supports the idea that eliminating those grades would encourage employees to collegiality. However, I can’t agree with it because from my point of view it’s not a fair organizational structure unless all employees have the same labor. The reasons for my point of view are stated in the following paragraphs.
Firstly, I believe it is not fair because not all employees have same education. For example, somebody who didn’t attend university can’t earn as much as somebody who did it because the latter spent money and years of his life to get a higher education. And he expects that this fact would be rewarded in the future.
Secondly, not all employees have the same experience. The one who have been working in the company for ten years can contribute more with its experience than the one who have been two years. What I mean is this the more experienced one could have the idea for a problem or conflict in the company because he may have lived a similar problem in the past.
Lastly, and maybe the most important, is that not everybody has the same responsibilities. For example, if we produce a car that is unsafe and causes a lot of accidents every month, the responsible of that are the engineers and the president of the company. And they are the ones who may lose their jobs, not the one who is cleaning the toilets. Therefore, responsibilities have to be paid fairly.
To summarize, I don’t think eliminating salary ranks would be a good idea because of the reasons I have stated above. In my opinion, everybody should earn a salary accordingly with its education, experience and, mainly, with its responsibilities.
