How Bad is 4 in AWA?

Hi Guys, I took the Gmat and got a 620, I was not prepared and did quite bad but I'm pretty sure I can get around 700 next time
The problem is that I got 4 in the AWA part and I'm not sure I can improve much there (I think I could get 4.5, maybe 5 if I'm lucky).

I want to apply for a Phd in a top 50 University, how bad do you think such a Awa score could affect my chances?
Futhermore, what tools could I use to improve my AWA?
