My Response :
According to the argument, the author concludes that the entertainment media is responsible to ensure their content is suitable for young consumers because parents cannot be aware of the all the entertainment options available to their children. I completely agree with the author's opinion and go further by stating that the regulatory body should be set up which can monitor the content aired to the consumers.
The chief reason is that there are really number of options available today for the children and it's difficult for young minds to judge whether a particular option is good or bad. The three screens in everyday life - television, mobile telephony and computer predominantly are the means through which children get entertained. There is plethora of programs aired on various TV channels and internet on computers and mobile is flooded with numerous options of entertained. Today, a lady can laugh by watching a comedy program though she was an hour back and a gentleman can cry after watching a horror movie. Since an adult is influenced by the options available, one can imagine the extent to which children are influenced.
Secondly, the entertainment options are growing so rapidly that it's difficult for parents to figure out what is appropriate for their children and what's not. For example, social networking site Facebook was not there few years ago. Today, it's engulfed the world like a mammoth storm. Parents who don't catch up with such trends may fail in educating their children about the ill effects of the particular option or how to use the option responsibly.
Thirdly, there are various entertainment options over internet, where young minds would fall into prey. Several websites contain uncontrolled pornography which today's childrens have easy access and get badly influenced. There are some violent organizations which create extremist attitude or false notions in the minds of general public. Parents may not be aware what their child is doing in the study room. Just like programs in TV have different ratings for the programs, a universal rating should be given to the content available on the internet for the benefit of saving children from any untoward incidents.
In sum, I conclude that the entertainment media should be responsible and ensure their content is viewable by particular segment of it's audience. If the content is not suitable, the media should make it a mandatory practice for the viewers to opt for the same at their own discretion, provided they meet specific age criteria so that today's children won't get affected adversely.
