let me restate the Q.
1. If Beth bought the car cash down, then it is 8000.
2. If she finances the car, then after paying 2K down, she will have to
pay x equal installments of Y each.
So if she chose 2, then total price of the car is 2K + x*y.

Now lets look at stmts.

stmt 1. installments is 200 per month. ie y = 200.
But we dont know x. So insufficient.

Stmt 2: she has to pay for exactly 3 yrs. ie 36 months.
ie x = 36. But dont know y. so Insufficient.

Combining both we get both x and y.
so C

HT helps

THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSE.

/BUT IF YOU LOOK STATEMENT 2 IT SAYS "WILL EXTEND TO 3 YEARS " THEN IT IS NOT EXACTLY 3 YEARS ....

THIS IS CAUSING SOME CONFUSION....

i think it is not extend to but extend over

so i think it is straightforward..and anyway I really don't think they they would try to test out knowledge of idioms in a data sufficiency question.

Thanks
The powers of two are bloody impolite!!
