Hello everyone, I tried solving this Data sufficiency problem from OG Quantitative review (Question 93) and I feel that Statement 2 alone is sufficient but the answer explanation states that both the statements are needed. What do you guys think??

Statement 1: The cancellation fee was $595
Now, the cancellation fee is (595/1700)*100 = 35% of the package price
Hence, the trip was canceled from 31 to 45 days prior to 4th of September.

Not sufficient.

Statement 2: If the trip had been canceled one day later, the cancellation fee would have been $255 more
Now, $255 is 15% of the package price.
There are two cases where a 15% change can happen
  • 1. From 35% to 50% which means the trip was canceled 31 days prior to 4th of September.
    2. From 50% to 65% which means the trip was canceled 16 days prior to 4th of September.
Not sufficient.

1 & 2 Together: The trip was canceled 31 days prior to 4th of September.

Sufficient

The correct answer is C.

I didn't notice that statement 2 has another case where the difference was 15%. Anyways, Thank you very much!!
