Is the correct answer really A? I think is D...
Section 7 of GMAT (some Asian symbols behind) not sure from which forum did I get these questions

4. Yesterday Nan parked her car at a certain parking garage that charges more for the first hour than for each additional hour. If Nan’s total parking charge at the garage yesterday was $3.75, for how many hours of parking was she charged?
(1) Parking charges at the garage are $0.75 for the first hour and $0.50 for each additional hour or fraction of an hour.
(2) If the charge for the first hour had been $1.00, Nan’s total parking charge would have been $4.00.

It's A because we can't figure out how many additional hours after the first is charge from condition 2. We just know that $3 is charged for these hours, but we dont know the rate/hour.

I fail to understand that with condition (a) how can we be sure that the parking ahs been for 6.1 hrs or 6.5 hrs or for 7.0 hrs. because the charge for the fraction of hr is also same as that of full hr. In that case condition (A) and ever (B) togethers also is not sufficient to conclusively say the no of parking hrs. Except for that matter that we uncessarily assume that total parking hr is integer.

Pl. help.

amit u've got it wrong.... all the questions asks is how many hours was nan charged for .. not.. how many hours the car was parked for.... there is a difference ... suppose the car is parked for 6.6 hrs it will still be charged for 7 hrs... u know doesnt matter if u've eaten just half the pizza that u ordered u still have to pay for the whole ... :lol:

Statement 1:
As given in the statement, each additional fraction of an hour is rounded to full hour. For e.g., if she parked for 3.45 hours, she'll be charged for 4 hours.
Let's say, h is the number of additional hours, where h will be integer.
3.75 = 0.75 + (h x 0.50), h can be calculated - SUFFICIENT

Statement 2:
4.00 = 1.00 + (h x r), where r, the rate for additional hours, is unknown - INSUFFICIENT


Therefore, answer is A.
