flying larva-a good question

by pradeepkaushal9518 » Fri May 21, 2010 2:44 am
a farmer wishes to reduce the number of flies on his farm by preventing the fly from transitioning into adult flies. he plans to raise chickens that will eat fly larva before they have a chance to become flies. when the chickens are grown they will be slaughtered and sold.

if true which of the following casts the most serious doubt on the farmer's plan?

a. the farmer could make more money selling the chickens's egg than slaughtering them.
b. the manure of one chicken can support more fly larva than a single chicken can consume.
C. chicken farmers often must use antibiotics preventively to keep their chickens healthy.
d.farmers in Australia have tried a similar approch using foxes to combat rabbits infestation and they have almost all failed.
e. chickens need many more calories than can be provided by fly larva alone.

plz explain yr answer

My take is B
here chicken will eat larva-->prevent the fly from transitioning into adult flie
So the option wants to weak this argument must address this issue. In the options only B and D address this.A,C and E irrelevant.

In B and D...D tries to an analogy with fox and rabbit...this does not have any direct relation with current plan..eliminated
Only B suggests that even if chicken eats the larva ,larva will be left from which flies can come...hence plan will not work as expected.

Answer is B: If chicken manure supports MORE fly larva then what a single chicken can consume, then the chickens would not be able to keep up with the amount of fly larva being produced.
