Question about Cover Letter and Reco

Hi Lisa,

Could you please tell me that while writing a cover letter who should be addressed? is it like'

Dear ad-com officer (!)

If I have to compose my reco sitting with my manager is there a chance that B-Schools will verify back all the facts given in the recos?

Dear Joker,

You should address your cover letter to the Director of Admissions, so you will need to get his/her name. I would highly discourage you from writing your recommendations as schools will verify the information and call the recommender if they suspect you did. Likewise, it can affect your candidacy negatively. If your recommender insists you write it, see if you could provide an outline for a letter instead. That way it will only take them 30 minutes or so to draft the letter. And yes, schools will verify information in the recommendations if they believe it could be fraudulent.
