Scientists have recently discovered that the ultrathin, layered construction of a butterfly's wings, the same as the one making some butterflies shimmer via the phenomenon of iridescence, are enabling the insect to control how much heat energy is absorbed by its wings and how much is reflected away.

A. wings, the same as the one making some butterflies shimmer via the phenomenon of iridescence, are enabling
B. wings, which is the same one that makes some butterflies shimmer via the phenomenon of iridescence, that also enables
C. wings is the same as the one that makes some butterflies shimmer via the phenomenon of iridescence, enabling
D. wings-the same construction that makes some butterflies shimmer via the phenomenon of iridescence-also enables
E. wings-of the same construction that makes some butterflies shimmer via the phenomenon of iridescence-also enable

answer is D
I know E is wrong for using enable ,but is wings-of the same construction also wrong ? And please Explain . Thank you

here "-" is used as a modifier.

prepositional phrase can modify the noun.
When we use "-" as a noun modifier, we don't use both "-" and the preposition.

In E, if we don't use "-" and only the preposition "of", then the modifier would modify the "wings" and not the head noun of the noun phrase "layered construction of ..".

Hope this helps !!

Here the subject is 'construction.' As a singular subject it takes the verb 'enables' not 'enable.' Hence (E) is wrong and (D) is correct.

Let me know if you have any other questions regarding the sentence - I would be happy to answer them :).

I dont have doubt in OA but i doubt in NON-UNDERLINED construction

Correct sentence: Scientists have recently discovered that the ultrathin, layered construction of a butterfly's wings-the same construction that makes some butterflies shimmer via the phenomenon of iridescence-also enables the insect to control how much heat energy is absorbed by its wings and how much is reflected away.

Shouldn't we use AND instead of comma. Also what is the different b/w "A,B and C" and "A,B, and C"

why cannot we use "C" option.
The word "enabling" is modifying "wings".
what is RUN ON?
