Advertisement: Today's customers expect high qualityEvery advance in the quality of manufactured productraises customer expectations. The company that is
satised with the current quality of its products will
soon nd that its customers are not. At MegaCorp,
meeting or exceeding customer expectations is
our goal.

Which of the following must be true on the basis of the
statements in the advertisement above?
(A) MegaCorp's competitors will succeed in
attracting customers only if those competitors
adopt MegaCorp's goal as their own.
(B) A company that does not correctly anticipate the
expectations of its customers is certain to fail in
advancing the quality of its products.
(C) MegaCorp's goal is possible to meet only if
continuing advances in product quality are
possible.
(D) If a company becomes satised with the quality
of its products, then the quality of its products
is sure to decline.
(E) MegaCorp's customers are currently satised
with the quality of its products.

Guys please explain me how is the answer C ? I chose OA - D

Thanks a lot,
Ankit

Here, the correct answer will extend the argument given in the parent statement. As Mega Corp's goal is meeting or exceeding the expectations of the customers, it will do so by continuously improvising its products and their quality.
This gives C as the answer.

To answer your doubt regarding D, the quality of products may not decline if a company becomes satisfied with the quality, it may only stagnate. To say that it will definitely reduce quality is incorrect.

E is irrelevant to the passage.

A is not the answer because the passage does not throw light on practices of competitors and whether their strategies are successful or not.

B is incorrect because nowhere is it mentioned that the only way to advance quality of products is by preempting customer demands. The passage only states that this is one important factor for increasing product quality is trying to satisfy customer demand.

Hence C! Hope this helps.

MegaCorp has a problem. It has to constantly increase the quality of its product because as the passage states: "The company that is
satised with the current quality of its products will
soon nd that its customers are not". Because MegCorp's goal is to "meeting or exceeding customer expectations", it must constantly raise the quality of its products above the previous levels (that they the comapny was satisfied with previously).

The goal is possible to be met only if there is room and mechanisms available to continually increase the quality of its products.

So the correct answer is C.

Although the two posts above answer the query of why C and not D, I would like to add one more point to answer 'why not D'.

As per D, the quality of products decrease if the company does not advance quality of its products. But as per passage, the customers perceive that the quality of product decreases considering the high expectations of customers. Thus, not D.

Hope it helps.
