Need for is the correct idiom .

Hence ELIMINATE A, C and D

Now we are left with B and E

B is wrong because the subject is a need . which is singular .

In B they are making pine and flax as the subject and hence using the verb are because its separated by 'and'

Hence E .
required for ... to be ....

Hope this helps :)

Not really . dont think so . If there would be an antecedent , then what would it be
?

I think they are only testing idioms in this one .

bhumika.k.shah lol I'm not sure... now whenever I see a pronoun i automatically look for an antecedent
