As i said in my post u can find ans by looking for the correct structure. Op E is a sentence fragment. I show u how...

With a history dating back to 1200 BCE, the Anasazi, a prehistoric Native American culture that is centered in the Southwest United States and that, neighboring the Hohokam, is noted for distinctive pottery, adobe or sandstone dwellings known as "jacal," and the earlier pit-house.

Red part ---> initial modifier

Green one --> MAIN SUBJECT --> has no verb here, hence sentence fragment.

Blue part ---> A modifier

Orange part --> a modifier in that blue modifier

Hi Gmat25,

what does second that refers to then???? because I feel in order to keep the sentence parallel, second that should also refer to American culture........what do u say?[/quote]

The correct answer is Op C and this Op doesn't contain second THAT. Op B and Op E has second THAT and both are sentence fragments as i had shown in my earlier post.

If u place second that in that case this part " is noted for distinctive pottery, adobe or sandstone dwellings known as "jacal," and the earlier pit-house." will take " prehistoric Native American culture" is its subject and in that case, the MAIN SUBJECT, "the Anasazi" has no VERB...thats why Op B and Op E are sentence fragments.
