‘There is only one definition of success - to be able to spend your life in your own way.’
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this definition of success? Support your position by using reasons and examples from your reading, your own experience, or your observations of others.

The statement above is very clear about the definition of success. According to it the successful person is the one who is able to spend his life in his own way. I believe that the definition of what success is or should be is different for each person. Thus I agree with the statement because it gathers all the different and possible definitions of success.

Recently I read in a magazine that in the United States there is a reality show featured by former wrestling star Hulk Hogan and his family. This program talks about their life and shows their point of view of what a successful life is. For this family, success is having money, living in a big and luxury house with a swimming pool and driving expensive cars.

Even though, for my father the definition of success is to bring up his sons, provide them the best education and have a happy and wealthy family. For him is also very important that his sons are polite and hard-worker. And he believes that he is successful if his sons get a degree and a good job.

Nevertheless, for a scientist or researcher success could be obtaining the Nobel Prize for his investigations, for a journalist is winning the Pulitzer, and for a soccer player is to win the FIFA World Cup. With these examples I mean that there is a definition of success based in professional reasons. Therefore, for some people success is to succeed in their job.

Summarizing, I agree with the statement about success because in it is included all definitions of this word, and doesn’t matter whether it is professional success, personal success or material success in terms of money.
