"In any enterprise, the process of making or doing something is ultimately more important than the final product."
Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion expressed above.
I have trouble with these abstract opinions.. This is also my second essay so i'm not sure how well my structure is. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
In the statement above the opinion states that in any enterprise, the process of making or doing something is ultimately more important than the final product. This is a particularly important discussion to entrepreneurs and startup companies that do not succeed on their original goals. On one hand, proponents of this opinion believe that the process of making something is the most important aspect when one is involved in an enterprise. On another hand, the opponents of this opinion believe that the success of the final product is the most important aspect. I agree with the opinion that the process of making or doing something is the most important part of an enterprise, the reasons for this are that by applying one's self to the process of doing something you fully learn that process, as well as you learn more about yourself.
Firstly, when going through an enterprise, in order to clearly and fully understand what is happening you must apply yourself to the process of that enterprise. What matters is that one learns and takes a great deal away from the process, not the final product. By learning what makes a final product good, one will invariably learn how to make a strong final product every time. And example of this is new math content. As teachers know, it is easy to put numbers into a calculator to find the answer of a math problem. The problem with this method is that it does not allow the student to fully understand what was going on, and when they receive more challenging problems they are unable to answer them. The aspect of doing the math problem out on paper is much more important than the final answer for students.
Secondly, when going through an enterprise, one learns more about themselves. The making, or doing of an enterprise emphasizes the strengths or weaknesses of an individual. An example of this is my brother who started an internet company. He originally wanted to create a website that users could post pictures of their homes, but he quickly realized while trying to find customers that he was very efficient at sales. This made his change his mind and go into real estate and he currently is the CEO of a top online real estate company. For my brother the process of starting up his online website showed him that he was very good at sales. Although his final product of a superior photo website was never fully realized he feels that it did not matter.
However, the problem with the opinion is that it uses very vague wording in its description of making or doing something. The opinion assumes that the making or doing of something is correlated to the final product. It assumes that the individual who is doing something is learning valuable knowledge that he or she can then apply to the final product. If the individual is actually doing nothing related to the final product, this process is not beneficial, and the final product now becomes the most important part of the enterprise. The vague wording used in the opinion is worrisome, yet it does not overpower the overall meaning of the opinion.
In conclusion, the opinion states that in any enterprise, the process of making or doing something is ultimately more important than the final product. I agree with this opinion because I believe that the process of solving a problem forces an individual to fully learn the problem, as well as learn more about themselves.
