Please suggest how to develop the idea about this topic.
“Organizations should be structured in a clear hierarchy in which the people at each level, from top to bottom, are held accountable for completing a particular component of the work. Any other organizational structure goes against human nature and will ultimately prove fruitless.”
Many people claim that in the globalization era, hierarchy system should be eliminated, especially the hierarchy in organizational management. From my point of view, however, the explicit hierarchy is remarkably important to the organization because it solidifies employees’ morale, and establishes strong structure of the companies.
Firstly and foremost, compartmentalizing tasks make the employees clearly understand who they are, what they have to do in each day, and what they can contribute to the whole company. Recognizing own roles makes them feel that they are truly a part of the team. When the company succeeds, they can be proud that they are also the distributors to the achievement, and thus enjoy the satisfaction even more. The flat organization, on the contrary, does not differentiate employees. This make everyone is equivalent to each other. Although this seems plausible and compliant to individual rights, it aggravate the employees indeed. The employees may not understand what they are doing, or whether what they do would have impact to other people’s work.
Secondly, the whole company would be easily controlled under the hierarchy system. When any policy would put into practice, the executive managers can distribute the order from top to bottom according to the organization chart. The managers would not be difficult to implement any project of improvement. In contrast, the flat organization may not support these kinds of situation because employees do not listen to each other. The companies would not move into the same direction, and thus fail to reach company’s objectives.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that hierarchy structure is crucial to govern any organizations. The company which ignores this system would confront with impasse due to the lack of sheer manpower. Furthermore, it could hardly bring the whole organization to step forward because unclear role and authorization.
