For quick reference, label (x-y)/(x+y) as (*).
(1) Choose x=1, y=-2. Then (*) = 3/-1 < 1
Now Choose x =10, y = -2. Then (*) = 12/8 > 1.
(1) is insufficient.
(2). Choose x = 1, y = -2. Then (*) = 3/-1 < 1
Choose x = 10, y = -2. Then (*) = 12/8 > 1
(2) is insufficient.
(1)+(2) Note that the same values made (1) and (2) insufficient. So apply those values to this case and you will get the same result. (1)+(2) is insufficient.
