Everyone going through GMAT journey definitely asks this question. Some people are sure about which B Schools to go but majority research a lot about "Which MBA to apply to?"
As a person who has undergone this journey, I would like to give some insights to all my fellow MBA aspirants. We all want something out of MBA education and in 90% cases it's a good paying job and fast track career growth. So its very important to choose a school which can help fulfill the dreams as you would be spending a lot of money to achieve this.
There are a lot of factors that you should be aware of while applying to a B school. E.g. You are from IT industry or Supply Chain background and need to switch to Finance. So doing an MBA in Finance is not sufficient enough. Even though B schools offer MBA in all major functions but they are tagged as a specialized school in one or two specific functions. Definitely its the experienced faculty in specific area makes a school specialized in certain function but part of the reason is also that These schools have their ALUMNI established in that particular sector which helps the school in getting internship /full time opportunities and gives continuous feedback to school on MBA curriculum. You can validate this by seeing the B school placement data. This is further proved by GMAC corporate survey that shows 76% of companies agree that they use employee referrals as primary source of recruitment. So the TAKEAWAY for you is unless you are getting into a top tier school you should research about the placement data of B school and compare the B schools on the % employed in the functional area where you wish to pursue Post MBA career.
