Can someone clarify the importance of extracurriculars and community service in the admissions process? Are both required?

I currently do not have any community service involvement, but I tutor on the weekends and started/lead a meetup group around my community that meets every other week to connect expats with each other. I'm currently based outside of the US. (Do these count?)

Contrary to current belief community service is not a mandatory attribute to have while applying to B-schools.

Extra-curricular activities do show your multi-dimensional profile but if you have enough team building and leadership experiences in you professional life even this won't be needed. Your extra-curricular sounds decent too.

Neither are required. It would be helpful if either was complementary or aligned with your academic area or future career interest in some way.

An extracurricular community service group worth considering: USA Leadership Corps
We facilitate volunteer nonprofit & small business strategy consulting projects.
Thanks & Good Luck.
