Hi Stacy,

Kindly evaluate my profile.

UG: Computer Science

Work Ex: 3 years (currently) in Information Technology with Infosys Technologies LTD.

GMAT: 650 :-(
Break Up: Quant - 42, Verbal - 36, and AWA - 5.0

Extra Curriculars: Cricket captain in school, Played for the College and University with success, Arranged lots of tours to various parts of the country, an amateur herpetologist, In charge of the Press Commitee at college festivals, Part of the Animal Welfare Club at infosys

Community: Have been a rescuer, rescuing both snakes and people :-), when snakes are found in localities, company etc. (if at all this can be considered as community work)

Recos: Yet to be taken, should be pretty good i guess...

I have shortlisted the below colleges:
1. University of Texas Dallas
2. TAMU
3. University of Tennesse, Knoxville
4. Otago MBA
5. GSB Capetown

Kindly suggest shall i try with some better ranked universities, if so, which universities can i target at my profile.

Kindly suggest me some B-schools.
Do i stand realistic chances applying to schools like BYU, WP Carey, Eli Broad, Melbourne Business School.

Also if you can provide some information on the reputation of the schools listed above.
Will an MBA from these schools give me chances of getting some decent jobs in US (obviously assuming I do well during my stint at the respective B-schools)

Regards,
Tapan

Dear Tapan,

I think you have done a good assessment of your profile and schools where you will be competitive. It is quite difficult to gain admission as an international student, especially with a common profile. Relative to the other applicants with your education and experience profile, your GMAT is low, so the rest of your application components must mitigate that component and convince the admissions committees to offer you a seat in the class. Without retaking your GMAT and increasing your score at least 40 points, I think you have the right mix of reach and reasonable schools. BYU, Carey, Broad and Melbourne would be closer to reach schools for you. In terms of reputation and placement opportunities, I encourage you to do some further research--look at the schools' placement statistics, ask to chat or email with someone in the career services office, etc. Before you do all of that though, you need to know what information you are specifically looking for--what industries, functional areas are most important to you? is there a particular city or geographical area you want to be in post-MBA? The more specific your questions are, the better the information will be that you get back.

Good luck,
Lisa
