A recent review of pay scales indicates that CEO's now earn an average of 419 times more pay than blue-collar workers, compared to a ratio of 42 times in 1980.

A. that CEO's now earn an average of 419 times more pay than blue-collar workers, compared to a ratio of 42 times
B. that, on average, CEO's now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, a ratio that compares to 42 times
C. that, on average, CEO's now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, as compared to 42 times their pay, the ratio
D. CEO's who now earn on average 419 times more pay than blue-collar workers, as compared to 42 times their pay, the ratio
E. CEO's now earning an average of 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, compared to the ratio of 42 times

Hi, following is my analysis of this question:

A. Here the pay of CEO's is compared to the blue-collar workers themselves (....more pay than blue-collar workers). Also, 'ratio of 42 times' is redundant - INCORRECT

B. is badly worded. This option seems to say that on 42 occasions in 1980, ratio of ceo:blue-collar pay reached 419:1. This is not the intended meaning - INCORRECT

C. Correct option. Note the right parallelism too..."CEO's now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers"

D. very badly worded and wrong meaning. Also, the word 'indicates' should be followed by 'that' - INCORRECT

E. the word 'indicates' should be followed by 'that'. The same error in B is repeated here. Also, awkwardly worded - INCORRECT

I will go with C.Parallel sentence formation and indicated require 'that' after it.

I agree that B is badly worded, but I do not find C clear either.

'that, on average, CEO’s now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, as compared to 42 times their pay, the ratio '. The words 'the ratio' after their pay is confusing me....any comments?
