Selecting Evaluators for LOR

by merwin11 » Sun Sep 08, 2013 7:37 pm
Hi everyone,

Can someone help me with my question? I was thinking of getting one of my recommendations from my colleague in Holland. We interact everyday and he sees my work and knows exactly what I do. He is very interested in recommending me too.

Does the recommender have to be someone who has seen me work, as in someone who is physically present in the same office as me?

Thanks in advance,

Merwin

It is preferred that your recommender has worked with you and knows you in person on a daily basis. However, there is no hard and fast rule. Try not to compromise on any aspect of your application - as these aspects do play out heavily during your application selection process so you may need to make sure you know your recommender well enough.

Picking someone long distance can make your application reviewer wonder whether you actually do get along well with teams in person - so you may need to find a way to address that in case you pick this Holland person.

Good Luck!
