arithmetic and geometric sequences

Hey guys,

Do you really need to know by heart the formulas for nth number and sum for arithmetic and geometric sequences? or will you be given the formula if you're expected to use it?

What would you recommend?

Yes you would need to know them by heart and they really are not that hard to remember.
