The complete essay question is :
"Show us an activity you enjoy doing. Tell us how you think it contributes to your personal and
professional development"
Here, I have two things in my mind.
1. I like to volunteer for community services. I have also led one during my undergrad and one in my profession.
2. I love to run and I have run two half marathons in the last two years.
I am confused which one to explore over here.
I need some expert advice here.
Thanks.

Does running contribute to your personal AND professional development? If so, then you can choose either. The point is to explain your activity in a way that is compelling both personally and professionally. Running wouldn't count in that way for me, but it might be a metaphor for your stamina, etc.

Thanks for your post.
About running, I can write all that can be written about it. For somebody, who runs regularly and has been running marathons, running contributes to both personal and professional aspects in reasonable ways. Stamina, perseverance, pushing oneself etc.
On the flip side, working and contributing to the society has its own charms and that is impressive as well.
While , when I am running, I am involved in my own growth, when I am working for the society, I am giving back etc.
So, that is the reason I am confused. Which one would help me more, if I had to choose one.
It's all about how a B-School adcom sees it.
Which they find more appealing, running or volunteering.
