Adam and Beth each drove from Smallville to Crown City by different routes. Adam drove at an average speed of 40mph and completed the trip in 30 mins. Beth's route was 5 miles longer, and it took her 20mins more than Adam to complete the trip. How many MPH was Beth's avg speed on this trip?

Adams 40mph 30minutes so drove during 20miles

"Beth's route was 5 miles longer", so:
Beth route: 25miles (20+5)

"And it took her 20mins more than Adam to complete the trip", so:
It took 50 minutes to complete the trip to Beth (30+20)

SO we have
Beth Xmph 50 minutes and drove during 25miles
Speed=Distance/Time
Speed=25/50

To convert it to per hour you cross multiply it
25/50=x/60
(60*25)/50=x
x=30
