Two weeks to go need 700 plus

by Shina » Sat Jun 26, 2010 11:36 pm
Hi,

My GMAT date is 14th July. I'm using OG, OG verbal and MGMAT cat's to prepare plus forums and flashcards downloaded and some added on my own.

Need some guidance, specially around how to improve verbal. My last test was taken on 20th - GMATPrep, I got a 690( attempted awa) which is promising considering I was exhausted while taking the test and did not see too many questions I recognized. I'm still not happy with where I am.

On my tests my quant has moved up to ranging anything in between 47-49 in every test and Verbal ranges 33-36. This however will not get me 700 plus. I'm practicing to push quant to over 50 (still not touching this mark in practice).

My problem area is verbal and I have absolutely no clue how to work on this. There is no pattern to questions I get wrong in SC (Can't pin point on idioms, tenses or anything else). Analyzing MGMAT I realize that I do get questions rated 700-800 frequently wrong. From OG I see that my success rate is about 65% of the questions in RC and SC and about 80-85% in CR.
In RC I do lose focus on passages on topics I'm not interested in and on the ones that are very long.

Need advice on how to strengthen verbal and how much should I aim in verbal to cross the 700 mark. I'm expecting anything between 48-52 on quant as I stand today.

My MGMAT tests were 640 and 660..

Thanks,
Shina

If you can get your hands on a few past LSAT tests, I think doing those RC passages will help. Attempt to do four past LSAT passages a day from now until 3 days before your test. This will help you build stamina. On my exam last week, I got two really long RC passages, and I handled them easily because of my practice with past LSAT tests. Good luck.
