How will i come up with the correct answer with this statements?
OA E
Statement 1: They left at 9.30 am on Monday and returned at 9.30 pm on Friday.
Case 1: If they left and came back in the same week, the number of hours Fran and Fred were away from home = 4.5 days = 4.5*24 hrs.
Case 2: If they did not leave and come back in the same week, the number of hours Fran and Fred were away from home > 4.5 days > 4.5*24 hrs.
No unique answer. Insufficient.
Statement 2: Their home was empty for exactly four days.
This shows that they were away from home for 4*24 hours.
Though this statement seems sufficient, one of the many possible answers does not match the answer from Statement 2. The minimum possible answer form Statement 1 is 4.5*24 hours ≠4*24 hours (Only answer from Statement 2).
In DS, the question and both the statements represent a holistic situation. It is not possible that the statements contradict each other. Since the question suggests discrepancy, we must look Statement 2 again.
It is possible that Fran and Fred are not the only members of the family. If other member (s) keep coming and going out, making the home empty for 4 days, it is not sure for how many hours Fran and Fred were out. Insufficient.
Statement 1 & 2:
Even after combing the statement, we cannot ascertain for how many hours they are out. Insufficient.
The correct answer:
E
Hope this helps!
