Forging CR

by aj5105 » Wed Jun 24, 2009 8:12 am
A computer equipped with signature-recognition software, which restricts access to a computer to those people whose signatures are on file, identifies a person’s signature by analyzing not only the form of the signature but also such characteristics as pen pressure and signing speed. Even the most adept forgers cannot duplicate all of the characteristics the program analyzes.

Which of the following can be logically concluded from the passage above?

(A) The time it takes to record and analyze a signature makes the software impractical for everyday use.

(B) Computers equipped with the software will soon be installed in most banks.

(C) Nobody can gain access to a computer equipped with the software solely by virtue of skill at forging signatures.

(D) Signature-recognition software has taken many years to develop and perfect.

(E) In many cases even authorized users are denied legitimate access to computers equipped with the software.

IMO C)

Shortlisted C & E. I selected C since according to me E) assumes too much.
C) can be arrived at using premises from the argument.

I agree with C. I arrived at C and E, and E seems to be out of scope. There is more evidence for C though it is a bit extreme.

I agree with C

But if I have a option to change the choice , it should read as

A forger cannot gain access to a computer equipped with the software solely by virtue of skill at forging signatures.

or
Anyone cannot gain access to a computer equipped with the software solely by virtue of skill at forging signatures.

I think C is a straightforward pick as with the given information thats the only statement which can be concluded. Others need extra information to become a conclusion.

E is wrong because argument does not speak about the denying the access and authorized users.

C is the most suitable option in this case.
