Veritas Prep Practice Test - question about real value of x

What real value(s) of x satisfy this equation:
(8x) = x^2

A. 0,2
B. 0,-2
C. 1,2
D. 1,-2
E. -1,2

The ans is (A) but I have no clue how - the equation doesn't make sense to me. I would imagine x = 0 or 8.

This was a question on the Veritas Prep practie test

Non of the answer choices are possible.

A is wrong because:
0,2*8 =1,6
0,2*0,2 = 0,04

As you said only 8 and 0 fit to the equation.

Hi duke06 and Birgit Anne,

We have located the problem, and it looks like it's correct. I think duke06 transcribed it incorrectly, or maybe it didn't render properly on your screen. The question includes a graphical square-root sign, which shows up for us, but if it didn't show up on your computer, I could see that creating the issue.

Here is how the problem reads:

What real value(s) of x satisfy this equation:
(8x)^(1/2) = x^2

A. 0,2
B. 0,-2
C. 1,2
D. 1,-2
E. -1,2

(I wrote it as "(8x)^(1/2)" here, but the actual problem contains a square-root sign in front of "8x.")

In this case, answer A is in fact correct. So, I think the problem is okay, but please let me know if that square-root symbol didn't show up on your computer!
