A certain business produced X rakes each month from November thru February and shipped X/2 rakes at the beginning of each month from March thru October. The business paid no storage costs for the rakes from November thru February, but it paid storage costs of $0.10 per rake each month from March thru October for the rakes that had not been shipped. In terms of X, what was the total cost, in dollars, that the business paid for the rakes for the 12 months from November thru October?

A. 0.40X
B. 1.20X
C. 1.40X
D. 1.60X
E. 3.20X

IMO A

x= 100
100/2 = 50 in storage each month from March - October (8 months)
50 * $0.10 = $5.00 * 8 = $40

Plug in 100 for X in the answer choices and whichever gives you 40

I guess, you need to consider that each month 50 rakes are shipped, you will be paying for the reducing balance of rakes.

The company produces a total of 4x rakes.

It ships x/2 rakes in the beginning of each month from March through October and pays $.10 for each rake that hasn't been shipped in the beginning of the month.

Total cost:

(3.5x/10)=.35x- March

(3x/10)=.30x- April

The costs will go down by .05 as the months go on all the way to October,so:

May-.25x
June-.20x
July-.15x
August-.10x
September-.05x

All the costs for the 7 months add up to 1.4x.

The correct answer is C.
