Andy has 20 pairs of matched gloves. If he loses 11 individual gloves, which of the following is NOT a possible number of matched pairs he has left?

A. 9
B. 11
C. 13

1 pair of matched glove = 2 individual gloves for both right and left hands
20 pairs of matched gloves = 20 * 2 = 40 individual gloves

Andy lost 11 individual gloves
Total individual gloves remain 40 - 11 = 29 individual gloves
Maximum number of pairs of matched gloves that can be gotten from 29 individual gloves
= 29 / 2 = 14 remainder 1
Maximum pair of matched gloves from the remaining individual gloves = 14 pairs

Therefore, it is NOT possible to have 15 matched pairs of gloves from the remaining individual gloves

Answer: E
We're starting with a total of 40 gloves.
After losing 11 individual gloves, there are 29 gloves remaining

Since 15 PAIRS of gloves would require 30 individual gloves, we can see that it's impossible to have 15 PAIRS of gloves among the remaining 29 gloves.

Answer: E
