Question re Work Experience

I've been working for 3 years at a major company and have a great track record (leadership, promotions etc). I have a 730 GMAT and a 3.6 from a business school at a solid public university. When I go the "MBA Predictor" website, my chances of admission increase significantly when I put down 4 years of work experience instead of 3. My primary question is whether work experience is counted at the time of application (which would be 3 for me) or at the time of enrollment (which would be 4). Does anyone know?

Also, anyone have any thoughts whether it would substantially increase my chances of admission if I were to wait one year?

Work experience is counted from the day of joining or entering the class.

About waiting for one more year, adding one more productive year of work experience to your profile will definitely make it stronger.

However, you can make your candidacy shine now as well if you work diligently on all parts of your application package: resume, essays, recos etc. Since you have had a consistently progressive career with significant leadership roles, all you need to do now is to position them well with impressive stories.

The time is counted from MATRICULATION.... so lucky you that means you got four years. And I think with four years its "enough" for any business school. Of course it happens to also depend on WHAT you've been doing during those four years, but that's another story altogether :)

Thanks for the responses, very helpful. Now for the second part. I haven't even begun to work on my applications yet, and although I am planning on retaining a consultant, I'm wondering if it's realistic to think I could have 3-4 completed by round 1 deadlines. My job is very demanding and I'll only have a limited amount of time to work on my apps. Assuming I start in the next week or so, is this a normal or agressive timeframe for applying to top 10 schools?

Yes, two months seems to me an aggressive time frame for applying to ten schools.Even though you will be working with a consultant, you will still need time to work on the guidelines / suggestions provided by him/her. Also, it depends on the working style of the consultant you will be working with.I take about two weeks to work on one -school package.

I would suggest, begin working on your apps as soon as possible.

Ooops - sorry - I meant I'll be applying to top 10 schools, but I'm only looking to apply to 3-4 schools in the first round. Is it still an agressive timeframe, or is this a more normal timeline?

Perfect.If you are applying to only 3-4 schools in the first round, you are absolutely going in the right direction by planning to begin working on your apps next week.

Which schools you are planning to apply to?
