Response :

With the increased emphasis on globalization and international cooperation, people have to understand that the role they play as global citizens is far more important than the role they play as citizens of a particular country. The above issue is a contentious one and while both sides may have their strengths and weaknesses, I believe that globalization today has a far more important role to play than it did a decade ago.
To begin with, when an economic crisis affects a particular country, the repercussions are observed in other nations as well. For example, the current debt crisis that has impacted many nations such as Cyprus, Italy, Greece, and the U.S. etc. has spread its tentacles to countries such as India and China as well. The U.S. economy is currently going through a stressful period; politics and mismanagement of funds is the sole reason. But, India's economy is facing the aftershocks of the global downturn. Hence, one can safely say that people are citizens of the world and not their country alone.
In addition, with the unemployment rate steeply rising in countries such as the United Kingdom, people in India, China and other countries, who have taken loans to send their children to the U.K. to study, are facing financial crunches. The core reason is that the parents are unable to repay their loans because their children are not getting jobs on graduation.
Today, every country in the world is linked to another in terms of trade relations, education and medical tourism, foreign policies, and tourism. Thus, the common man has to understand these relations in the social context. He has to be made more aware of how the world problems can affect him.
Furthermore, all nations in the world need to be united in their stand against international terrorism.
To elaborate, the recent bomb attacks in India had the whole world on tenterhooks. The world was outraged. Thanks to media coverage, the crisis of one country becomes the source of a crisis in another country. Americans, Asians, Africans, Europeans, etc. are all connected to each other. People have to realize that their problems are faced by the people world over.
Some people may argue that firstly they need to eradicate their own problems before worrying about the world situation. They are so stressed out dealing with problems on a daily basis that they have no time to worry about the world crisis. But this point is flawed mainly because people do not understand the magnitude of the world's problems and how it can affect them drastically.
Thus, in conclusion, people must realize that they cannot be selfish nor can they live life with blinkers on. Today, the world is one small family. If one person in the family is affected, the whole family is affected. People have to understand the significance of a global economy and they have to play their part well.

Thanks,
