"Employees should expect no privacy while on the job, even when engaging in personal communication via telephone or e-mail. Employers are paying for their employees' time and have a reasonable expectation that this time is spent solely on work-related activities."

In the corporate scenario present at large in the world. There is low level of privacy to the employee and high amounts of expectations from him/her as well. The companies expect their employees to have no or very limited personal life and thus, leading to a growth of workaholic culture in the present workforce.
Company has this expectation due to a variety of reasons. One of them being the high amount of multitasking job in the professional environment, leading to a limited scope for personal activities. Due to the high amount of pay and compensation from the companies, it is imperative that the company will expect that the job given to the employee is not only effectively done but also efficiently handled. Also, in order to move to a higher level in the corporate structure one needs to ensure that personal life is not a hindrance.
While on the other side, it can be argued that the employees have to take certain professional tasks to home, since their professional life is present after their working hours. It is not unfair for them to have their personal life present in their working time. For example: The present age is of digital advertising with media channels such as social networking sites being one of the most important media. Since, the advertisers and media relations personnel are working 24X7, it is imperative that they would be on those social networking sites as individuals and it would be unfair to expect them to not be logged on at the office.
In certain scenarios, an individual working at his/her office could engage in personal communication as a form of stress buster and hence, will help him/her to work more effectively. Tea/Coffee breaks have always been about indulging in idle communication to ensure that the individual is not over stressed and is able to handle the job assigned to him.
If the company does follow the policy of strictness on engagement of personal issues at work, it stand at the risk of making the employee felt violated and thus, leading to high employee turnover. This could also lead to a decrease in the overall image of the organization, which could be highly detrimental to the Organization's objectives.
A variety of tasks the employee is expected to perform in the corporate world today are a mix of personal and professional engagement. For example: a copywriter creates a copy for a particular client on his/her inspiration. Since it's a highly creative job, it would be unethical to expect him/her to be allowed the space for the idea generation, which could come in any form.
In conclusion, The issue at hand is about the amount of space given to a particular employee to engage in his/her personal activity. While high amounts of intrusion prevents employee from working to their potential, the organization cannot let the individuals work without any rules since, the employers are paying for their employees' time and have a reasonable expectation that this time is spent solely on work-related activities.
