GMAT Score:700

Not over yet!

Hi all,

700 on the official GMAT on the 21st of Dec, a cancelled appointment due to illness on the 8th of Feb and a drop in 50 points today , 650 (46q,34v).
What can I say? I have never ever scored so low on a practise test. My average is 50q and 40v.

I knew my score would be low befoe I saw it this afternoon. A fellow GMAT test taker kept coughing up. Forget nails on paper, hammering on the wall or a loud street noise. This noise was like a knife piercing into me. It was constant and annoying! I wonder why she came in the first place. I am sure she couldnt concentrate either. It is an irony that I cancelled my own appointment on the 8th of Feb due to a bad cough! There was nothing I could do about it. I could not even hear myself think!!

I have raised an issue. I dont see how I can find time to study again with my job and everything! Maybe I while take 6 months off. This is absolutely disheartening.

obsessed_GMAT I think your score of 700 is good enough... do you not think so? Where are you looking to apply? What does your profile look like that you feel that you need 700+? Don't get me wrong... it's a good goal to want to achieve over a 700 but, I think in a worst case scenario you needn't worry to much.

I can imagine how you feel . . . you put in all of that time and you absolutely want to maximize your score to the fullest of your potential and expectations. Having said that, your original 700 is a damn good score, regardless :)

There's two things I'd consider :

1) Is a 700 vs a 730 vs a 750 really going to hurt my overall b-school app? Probably not. Keep in mind, the GMAT is a means to an end, you know?

2) If that damn coughing girl was really the lynch pin between minimizing and maximizing your score, what do you have to lose by taking it again ... short of $200? Your brain's already tuned into the 700+ frequency (you've proven that with your scores). Just stay sharp with 10-20 problems a day (which since you're solving most within the 2 minute mark, thats less than an hour) and give it another shot.

Either way, sleep on it. That inital shock from seeing a score lower than you'd hoped for is going to cloud your thinking and motivation. Go have some fun and think it over :)

Hey obsesses_GMAT,
First of all,I would like to wish you Congrats!I think 700 is an awesome score .It most probably will take you in t0 the 90%le bracket.
I think it would be better if you can rate your profile by some good consultant,so that they can advise you as to how to proceed further.
If then ,they say that you need to score higher than 700,then you can consider giving another shot.
Also,don't be discontent on your score.-Sometimes with many ppl,exam hall circumstances hamper their score(u r not alone)
I guess its important you take consultation regarding ur profile if you are in serious doubt.
Also,unless how have a gpa of 2.5 or something I don't think it is needed that you score 760+ or so.

Your overall profile matters when it becomes to your admission,not just your GMAT score.
