Hunter: Hunters alone are blamed for the decline in Greenrock National Forest's deer population over the past ten years. Yet clearly, black bears have also played an important role in this decline. In the past ten years, the forest's protected black bear population has risen sharply, and examination of black bears found dead in the forest during the deer hunting season showed that a number of them had recently fed on deer.
In the hunter's argument, the boldface portion played which of the following roles?
a. It is the main conclusion of the argument
b. It is an objection that has been raised against the main conclusion of the argument.
c. It is a judgment that the argument opposes.
d. It is a finding that the argument seeks to explain.
e. It provides evidence in support of the main conclusion of the argument.

My guess is B
I read the first sentence, then the second and was taken aback because the author just said hunter are alone to blame, then immediately goes on to blame the bears.
Also: "No more bears! No more bears!" "Will someone please think of the children?"

Ya agree with B, not my favorite but to be honest i do not think any of the options is relevant to the boldface.

For all those who opted for BMy guess is B
I read the first sentence, then the second and was taken aback because the author just said hunter are alone to blame, then immediately goes on to blame the bears.
Please take a look, here the author is himself the HUNTER!
So The Bold Face is the main Conclusion.
A

OA is A. I chose E because I felt that the conclusion was
"Hunters are not alone to blame."
That bears may be to blame seemed like more of a subconclusion, which wasn't an answer. The problem with choosing E is that it is clearly referring to last sentence. Since it was from GMAT Prep, no explanation

Words following the boldface statement clearly offer an explanation for the boldface claim....How can one be sure that Hunters alone are blamed for the decline in Greenrock National Forest's deer population over the past ten years is not the main conclusion???
Any thoughts

i guess you guy think " hunters alone are blamed for the....ten years" the main conclusion but i think this is absolutely not the main conclusion. the main conclusion is started by " YET CLEARLY" thus i think the bold face is the main conclusion.cm47323 wrote:Hunter: Hunters alone are blamed for the decline in Greenrock National Forest's deer population over the past ten years.
