Geologists believe that the warning signs for a major earthquake may include sudden fluctuations in local seismic activity, tilting and other deformations of the Earth's crust, changing the measured strain across a fault zone, and varying the electrical properties of underground rocks.

(A) changing the measured strain across a fault zone and varying
(B) changing measurements of the strain across a fault zone, and varying
(C) changing the strain as measured across a fault zone, and variations of
(D) changes in the measured strain across a fault zone, and variations in
(E) changes in measurements of the strain across a fault zone, and variations among

OA D

between D and E

(D) changes in the measured strain across a fault zone, and variations in
(E) changes in measurements of the strain across a fault zone, and variations among

Isn't changes in the measured strain wrong in meaning. How can you have changed in the measured strain..The strain has been measured once and it will have to be measured again...

Whereas E says that changes in measurement...which I was thinking is correct...

Are you choosing your answer based on variation in VS variation among..

Please help !!

Parallel structure: Geologists believe that the warning signs include fluctuations in X, changes in Y, and variations in Z.

Try to see 'the measured strain across a fault zone' as one unit.

what is meant by "electrical properties of underground rocks"?
Does it refer to more than 2 entities. NO!! It is one single entity. Hence among cannot be used.
Variations in X
Variations in "eletrical properties"

changes in his/her characteristics the above statement is similar to this statement.
here both electrical prop and characteristics refer to a single entity.
