UTSA Masters of Accountancy

by yugugelizer » Wed Jun 03, 2009 7:21 am
I am currently an undergraduate at UTSA. They offer a concurrent enrollment program for a master's degree for accounting majors. My GPA is a 3.2 (the average), and my GMAT score is a 560 (600 is the average). What can I do to help my chances of getting in? I assume with an average of 600, many are below, but I want to make sure I do everything possible to get accepted.

Dear yugugelizer,

Yes, if the average is a 600, then half the class is below that. However, you need to find out if your 560 is inside the mid-50% range. If it is, then you still have a chance. If it is outside the mid-50% range, then you might want to consider taking the GMAT again. In addition, I encourage you to establish a rapport with the faculty member in charge of the program and any other accounting faculty. You want to have personalize your application such that when you are evaluated for admission, the committee knows you versus only knows what is on the paper. Finally, be sure to put the time and effort into your application. Many of your classmates might not think the application is important beyond GPA and GMAT, but it can make a difference.

Good luck,
Lisa
