630 Dec 18th (Q39, V38), new practice MGMAT 690 (Q44,V39) :)

Having taken a Kaplan instructor-led course and studied an additional 100 hours afterwards, I scored a 630 12/18/2010 (Q39, V38) on the official test (my best score before was a 620). I feel to be competitive at the schools I have applied to, I need to get my score up. On Sunday I took a practice MGMAT and scored 690 (Q44, V39) 1/31/2011. YEAH! I can handle the Verbal well, and for the first time maintained a decent level of difficulty throughout the quant, which was all the difference as compared to previous tests.

I really haven't done a crazy amount of studying since my test, so go figure! I plan to retake the GMAT, well...ASAP given my 690, and submit a hopefully improved score (to schools that I have already submitted R2 apps). Some schools will take an updated GMAT, though not all (i.e. UCLA will take new info if waitlisted).

If I am lucky enough to score a 690 on a retake, should I apply to more schools? If so which top 10/20 schools do you think I'd have a chance at (i.e. Columbia/NYU/Haas/Cornell)? Or do you think given my profile that 690 would be just enough to get into USC or UCLA (I'd like to stay in CA)?
